Since Monday, the Office of the Town Clerk has received an unusual volume of requests for documents related to Miles Turner, a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student whose August 2000 disappearance led to a multi-agency search in and around Trace.

The Town maintains council minutes, road records, utility maps and certain public notices from that period. Trace does not maintain the criminal investigative file, medical records, court exhibits or evidence collected by county and state agencies.

Several municipal files from August and September 2000 have been transferred from the depot reading room for review. Those files will remain unavailable until their condition and release status can be confirmed. The transfer should not be understood as confirmation that the current agricultural review is connected to the Turner matter.

Requests already submitted will be retained in the order received. Town Hall will post an updated index when the records are returned. Staff cannot authenticate images, transcripts or case summaries circulating through unofficial social-media accounts.
